Paul Maynard MP speaks about MOWLL's FACE Facts campaign at hate crime debate
MOWLL's FACE Facts campaign aims to raise awareness of disability hate crime. The campaign is in memory of Gary Skelly, a popular Self Advocate at MOWLL who was killed by a single punch near his home in Norris Green in September 2010.
MOWLL CEO Heidi Kenworthy and members of the Skelly family were invited to Westminster on Monday 21st November to show the FACE film to a group of MPs, including Paul Maynard, MP for Blackpool North and Cleveleys, ahead of a debate about Disability Hate Crime held in Westminster Hall.
Watch Paul Maynard's speech to the debate which references Gary's story and talks about the damage that is done when we dehumanise people by labelling them and not seeing the person behind the label, and how this dehumanisation of people with learning disabilities directly leads to serious hate crime, "mate crime" and murder.
You can find out more about the campaign and Gary's story at the FACE Facts website
