FACE Facts
FACE stands for Fighting Against Community Exclusion
The aim of the FACE Facts project is to put a stop to hate crime in Liverpool. You can find out more at the FACE Facts website.
What Is Hate Crime?
Hate crime is usually a criminal offence that is motivated by prejudice, hostility, or hatred because of:
- Disability
- Gender identity
- Race
- Ethnicity or nationality
- Religion or belief
- Sexual orientation
Hate crime can include things like name calling and verbal abuse, bullying and harassment, spitting and physical attacks, damage to property, graffiti, and written notes, emails and text messages.
What is the FACE Facts project?
Peer Advocate Jenny shooting the FACE film
FACE Facts is a project that brought together MOWLL Self-Advocates and members of Asylum Link to make a film documenting their personal experiences of hate crime.
We hope the film will become a learning tool to be used in businesses and schools to raise awareness of hate crime in Liverpool.
We believe that firsthand experiences such as sharing stories can have a greater impact on people's opinions than hearing secondhand information.
The film's premiere screening was held at a special Community Voice Conference at FACT Liverpool on 27th June 2011.
Why do we need the FACE Facts project?
Gary Skelly, 26 Jun 1957 - 14 Sep 2010
This project has been conceived in memory of Gary Skelly.
After Gary's death his friends at MOWLL wanted to make sure he was never forgotten and we hope this project will ensure his name and his values continue to have a positive impact on the lives of other Liverpool residents.
9 out of every 10 people with a learning disability have been, or are being, bullied. This must stop!
